Singer Bhupinder Singh has died at the age of 82

He died of cardiac arrest on Monday evening. He is 82 years old and has been in the hospital for the past 10 days.

Dr Deepak Namjoshi, director of CritiqueAsia Hospital, said, “His condition deteriorated on Monday morning and we had to put him on ventilator. He suffered a heart attack and died at 7.45 pm.

He started his career with All India Radio, Delhi and Doordarshan.

Bhupinder Singh is known for songs like Dil Dhundata Hai, Naam Gum Jayega, Ek Akela Is Shaher Mein, Biti Na Bitai Raina, Huzoor Is Qadar Bhi Na Itra Ke Chabli, Kisi Nazar Ko Tera Intejar Aaj Bhi Hai, Badalan Se Kaat Ke.

He gave Singh his first break in 'Haqiqat' alongside Mohammad Rafi, Manna Dey and Talat Mahmud. The song was 'Hake Majboor Mujhe', which was quite eye-catching.

One of Gulzar's most memorable love songs owes a lot to Mirza Ghalib, whose couplet makes up the first line of the song.

Gulzar replaces the word 'ji' with 'dil' and expands the couplet with lyrical skill, while Madan Mohan composes it in the melodious raga Keervani.

In his later years, he also turned to ghazals, often performing with wife and singer Mithali Singh.
